Monsanto 705
Porto
A “park within the city”—an oasis where residents can experience the spaciousness and calm typically found in suburban landscapes without sacrificing the connectivity of an urban setting.
THE BUILDING
A low impacting building respecting the existing urban scale with a low facade to Rua Monsanto and a longer horizontal development towards the north side of the plot, creating views over the valley.
The building’s natural materials, particularly the wood-panelled facade, create a soft, welcoming aesthetic that resonates with the surrounding greenery. By wrapping the building in wooden slats and incorporating lush balcony and rooftop gardens, the architecture becomes part of the landscape itself.
Inside, the open-concept layouts and floor-to-ceiling windows bring light, air, and views deep into each home, establishing a connection with nature from every angle. The interiors are designed as sanctuaries—quiet, uncluttered spaces that encourage mindful living and offer reprieve from the city’s hustle. Minimalist in form yet rich in texture, the spaces evoke a sense of calm, with light woods, soft whites, and organic elements that foster a natural warmth. Private gardens and outdoor spaces encourage residents to interact with nature daily.
Finally, the building is designed with careful environmental consideration. It addresses sustainability by adding green roofs, reducing the site’s paved areas and maximizing green areas, implementing an efficient structure with minimum cement, utilizing biodegradable and wood components, providing ample shading over windows, and employing sustainable energy systems.

At its core, Monsanto 705 is a “park within the city”—an oasis where residents can experience the spaciousness and calm typically found in suburban landscapes without sacrificing the connectivity of an urban setting. It is an exploration in harmonizing urban density with the tranquillity of nature, creating a living experience that defies the typical boundaries of city life.

The project sits within the new green belt being developed by Porto Municipality, connecting Quinta do Covelo, Arca d’Agua and Quinta da Prelada all historical and cultural heritage parks with preserved landscapes. Each design decision seeks to take advantage of this and speak to an ethos of simplicity, openness, and the restorative power of nature.
Where city convenience meets the tranquillity of nature.

Living areas captures a sense of spaciousness and connection with the outdoors, offering a peaceful yet sophisticated urban retreat.
